Richard Hart practiced as a solicitor in his native Jamaica from 1941 to 1963. He served on the executive of the People's National Party of which he was a foundation member in 1938 and was active in the trade union movement
In 1982 he went to Grenada as a Legal Adviser to the Revolutionary Government, becoming its Civil Service Attorney General in 1983. Following the American invasion he returned to England. He is the author of several books on Caribbean history
